This presentation will focus on the new Virginia regulations for prescribing diploids and evidence-based guidelines for pain management in the dental office. The speaker will review the rational and the intent of Virginia prescribing guidelines for dentists. Evidence-base management of acute dental pain and the management of patient with or suspected of substance use disorder will also be discussed in an interactive manner. Pain is difficult to measure in children due to its subjectivity and often relies on the report of parents. Nonetheless, we must manage our pediatric patients' pain. We will review the current best practices for pain management in the pediatric patient including the safe use of opioid analgesics.
