Course Description: The participants will learn how to develop a method for treatment plans for simple and complex cases and how to sequentially implement them. Look at an otherwise overwhelming case and learn how to systematically approach restoration of oral health. What are the different treatment options and what are the long-term expectations for longevity of the rehabilitation and routine maintenance?
Objectives:
- Learn how each of the dental disciplines contributes to long-term, predictable oral health
- Learn to successfully develop plans for removable, fixes, and implant options based on different treatment aspirations based on patient desires, cost length and complexity of treatment
- Determine restorative and surgical complications and understand the evolution of long-term care and treatment transition options
Dr. McAndrew's Bio: Dr. Karen McAndrew attended the University of Pennsylvania where she received her D.M.D. degree and graduated with honors. Upon completion of her dental degree, her interest in prosthodontics lead her to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she completed her specialty training and earned her specialty certification and Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics. Dr. McAndrew currently serves as a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Prosthodontics and is an editor for the Journal of the Virginia Dental Association. She served as a past president of the Virginia section of the American College of Prosthodontics and holds membership in the American College of Prosthodontist, American Dental Association, Academy of Osseointergration, American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, The Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists. She also serves as the prosthodontist for the Cleft and Craniofacial Team at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. McAndrew serves on the faculty at VCU School of Dentistry in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Periodontic Departments. As well as, she is an Assistant Professor in the Pediatric Dental Residency Program for Bon Secours.
She has contributed to several scientific journals, coauthored a textbook chapter, and lectures nationally on dental implants. She has contributed to several scientific journals, coauthored a textbook chapter, and lectures nationally on Prosthodontics and dental implants. Dr. McAndrew maintains her private practice in Richmond, Virginia where she founded the Virginia Center for Prosthodontics limiting her practice to prosthodontics, dental implants, and maxillofacial prosthetics.
